For ASU Prep Global Academy senior Kian Bahin-Aein, learning has never been confined to a classroom. With an impressive 4.86 GPA, nine university credits already earned—and more on the horizon before graduation—along with recognition as a National Merit Semifinalist, Kian is proof that when students are empowered to shape their own path, extraordinary things happen.
“I don’t really have a typical day,” Kian says.
And that’s exactly what works for him.
Through ASU Prep Global, Kian has built a flexible schedule that reflects his diverse interests and values. His days might include university-level coursework in U.S. Government, homeschool studies or independent learning. He also balances extracurricular activities like practice sessions with a local orchestra and laps with his competitive swim team.
In addition, Kian is actively involved in Baha’i community activities, including leading a junior youth group for local children that focuses on virtues like kindness, service and self-improvement.
Currently living in Greenland with his family, Kian contributes to community-building efforts led by the Baha’i Faith, a religion dedicated to unity, service and the betterment of society.
One of the most important aspects of my life is being involved in the community in various ways.”
Kian’s academic accomplishments are exceptional. He qualified as a National Merit Semifinalist through the SAT alternate entry process with a 1460 SAT score—a distinction achieved by fewer than one percent of U.S. high school seniors.
His academic journey began early; he started taking high school courses while still in middle school and has consistently sought out honors and college-level classes.
“Kian is a dedicated student who consistently challenges himself to new academic heights,” says ASU Prep Global Principal Rachel Maleski. “He’s able to balance his academic and extracurricular activities incredibly well. One of the aspects of Global Academy I love most is the opportunity for students to learn in a variety of ways—and Kian has truly embraced that flexibility.”
Kian’s curiosity extends across subjects and languages. Over the years, he’s studied Danish, Greenlandic and Spanish, reflecting both his love of learning and his engagement with the world around him.
For Kian, ASU Prep Global’s flexibility is key to his success. “I’ve been able to learn things that are interesting to me and challenging,” he explains. “I’m not having to spend a lot of time in class and in school—I’m able to focus more on the learning aspect of it.”
“I’m taking physics right now and that’s interesting because I like the applied mathematics aspect of it and the logical concepts that relate to real life,” Kian says.
His mom, Amy, agrees. “I’m really grateful to ASU Prep Global for the opportunity for him to receive a quality education that’s also allowed him to be flexible and pursue other interests,” she says.
That freedom has helped Kian become not just a high-achieving student but also a well-rounded individual who lives his values.
After graduation, Kian plans to study engineering, possibly mechanical engineering, which combines his love of problem-solving and creativity.
“I like the idea of being able to create new things and improve things that already exist,” he says. “I’ve also been thinking about working with the environment in some way.”
Whether he’s exploring complex equations, practicing music, swimming competitively or mentoring younger students, Kian approaches every challenge with curiosity and care. And at ASU Prep Global Academy, he’s found the perfect environment to grow into the kind of scholar—and person—he aims to be.
Kian’s journey is a perfect example of what’s possible when education adapts to the learner. He’s built an academic experience that’s meaningful, challenging and uniquely his own.”
