Success Stories

Santa Cruz Valley Union High School

Challenge

Santa Cruz Valley Union High School is located in Eloy, Arizona, a rural area 50 miles south of Phoenix. They were unable to consistently offer Spanish 1 and 2 courses to their students because they struggled to hire and retain teachers. With an abundance of native Spanish speakers in their area and approximately 83% of their students being Hispanic, they wanted to find a remedy for the problem.

Solution

Introducing a blended learning experience
ASU Prep Global partnered with Santa Cruz leadership to provide instructors and digital materials for their Spanish 1 and 2 classes. Students participated in two lab days per week on a block schedule, as well as one live lesson per week with their online teacher. ASU Prep Global also provided a blended learning specialist and training for the onsite lab facilitator, making the transition to blended learning easier for the students and staff.

Results

ASU Prep Global served 127 students in Spanish 1 and 2 in their first year. Due to the success of the Spanish courses, Santa Cruz expanded their partnership with ASU Prep Global and began offering Chemistry, allowing them to serve 217 students the following year. The program continues to expand to meet the demand for new courses in areas where staffing is limited.
