  • If applicable, ensure POs for requested enrollments are sent to arpartnership@asuprep.org.

Payment Deadlines

ASU Prep Global Model

Teacher Availability Expectations

The work day for Global Academy at ASU Prep teachers is from 9 am – 5 pm in their U.S. time zones (Pacific to Eastern time zones). Teachers do understand, at times, some flexibility may be needed in order to serve students all across the globe. Before enrolling students at ASU Prep, please ensure students understand they will be required to meet synchronously with their teachers to complete required Discussion Based Assessments within their teachers U.S-based work day. Special requests to meet outside of the teacher’s workday must be sent to the teacher at least one week in advance. If a student misses their requested appointment without communicating with the teacher 24 hours in advance, the teacher is not required to schedule another meeting outside of their workday.

If a partnership school requires specific meeting times outside of 9 am-5 pm in the U.S., the partnership school is required to seek written pre-approval from ASU Prep’s instructional leadership department before enrolling students. Requests can be sent to your Account Manager.

Ensuring Student Success

Global Academy students are provided with information on how to be successful in their online learning at ASU Prep in the first module of every course.  Every course contains a “Welcome and Start Here!” module designed to help students better understand the course and platform. All students are required to complete the module to gain access to course content in each course. In addition, students are encouraged to contact their teachers directly for support throughout the semester. Teachers are available through email, phone, text, Zoom meetings, and Canvas messages to provide additional support. Teachers are US-based and typical availability is between 8am – 5pm  in U.S. time zones (Pacific to Eastern time). Partner contacts are expected to reply to emails from ASU Prep within 3 business days. If no responses are received, ASU Prep may request a phone call or meeting with a partner administrator to ensure student success in our program.

Discussion Based Assessments

ASU Prep Global requires students to successfully pass two (2) Discussion Based Assessments per half (.5) credit course in order to generate a final grade for students.

In order to maintain the highest possible standards of academic excellence, our model relies on opportunities for teachers and students to connect live to engage in academic conversations. We call these conversations a Discussion Based Assessment (DBA). A DBA is not an oral exam, but rather a discussion unique to each student and tailored based on current progression in their coursework.

The main reason for the DBA is to ensure that students are independently completing the coursework for the courses in which they are enrolled and maintaining academic integrity. If a student refuses to participate or does not pass both DBA assignments in each half credit course, or if our partnership school acting as the school of record is not requiring students to complete and pass both DBA assignments in each half credit course, Global Academy at ASU Prep will not be able to issue a passing final grade in our student information system for the course. However, Global Academy at ASU Prep can send partner schools current grades at the end of the semester through the LMS gradebook and our partner acting as school of record may determine the grade they award to students when they add the course to their official transcript at their school.

DBAs take place live via phone or Zoom/web platform. Students schedule DBAs with their teacher through Calendly or by contacting their teacher directly. Typical teacher availability is 9am-5pm in U.S. time zones; requests to meet outside of this time must be made a week in advance and are subject to teacher availability and approval.

Live Learning Sessions

To provide structured and meaningful learning experiences for our students, our teachers host weekly one-hour live learning sessions with a focus on content-area skill building. In addition, teachers may provide opportunities for small group and 1:1 support, as well as course support. The live sessions provide an opportunity for students to engage in collaborative, engaging learning opportunities with peers and the teacher. Live Learning Sessions are recorded and posted on Canvas course homepages for students to watch asynchronously.  The lesson time for each class is posted at the start of each semester on the student’s Canvas course homepage. Lessons are typically hosted between 8am-5pm in U.S. time zones (Pacific to Eastern time).

In addition to weekly live learning sessions, we want to ensure every student receives the highest level of support as if they are in a “classroom of one”. Teachers are committed to meeting with students one-on-one as needed and as student and teacher schedules align. Students are encouraged to reach out to their teachers if they would like to schedule one-one-one support time.
